Nice work, everyone! Thanks for running!

2012 Race registration is open!

What superpowers do you possess? What special abilities do employees at your credit union have? Are you tired of hiding them? Tired of wearing your superhero cape in your room, just for fun? Where no one can see it?

Well, now’s your chance to get out in your superhero cape!

Welcome to the Soles for Kids! We hope you’ll join us for our 5K run/walk to benefit the 100% for Kids foundation. Here are the event details:

  • Theme: Superheroes for kids! Come to the race wearing a superhero cape of your own outstanding design!
  • Date: October 13, 9 a.m.
  • Place: Valley Regional Park, 2700  West 5100 South, Taylorsville
  • Race course: We’ll start near the pavilion, run once around the baseball diamonds, then hop onto the running/jogging path for two laps.
  • Cost: $20. All proceeds go to benefit the 100% for Kids Foundation. For your race fee, you’ll receive a running shirt, water, and snack. If you use the low-tech registration form, be sure that we receive it by Wednesday, October 10.

You can walk for fun or race for time. Either way, we want to see your superhero cape. We’ll time runs and have prizes for the fastest runners in these categories:

  • Men 40 and under
  • Men over 40
  • Women 40 and under
  • Women over 40

Not to mention the most-coveted prizes:

  • Best team cape
  • Best individual cape
So come join us for a morning of fun, prizes, and superpowers on October 13! Register here.

Many thanks to those who came to our first ever Warm the Soles event! We had a fantastic time and look forward to doing the run again, next year.

Here’s a little report on the run:

On Saturday, October 15, thirty runners and walkers came to Valley Regional Park in Taylorsville for the first ever Warm the Soles 5K. The race benefitted the 100% for Kids foundation.

Before the race, Cyprus Credit Union presented a check for $25,000 to 100% for Kids. Cyprus raised the funds entirely through a payment-skip program.

“It was just a small crowd,” said Stephen Nelson, VP of Credit Union Support at the Association, “but it was just right for the first year. We’ll hold it again next year, and spend more time advertising it to get more folks out. It was a great way to begin International Credit Union Week.”

Originally thought of as a way to celebrate International Credit Union day, the idea for the race come out of PR/marketing roundtable last summer. Utah Power, Granite, and Deseret First credit union helped organize the race.

Below, Linda Burke and Karen Seo from Cyprus Credit Union present a check to Scott Simpson, chairman of the 100% for Kids board, and president of the Utah Credit Union Association.
